Arts Nova Scotia and the Creative Nova Scotia Leadership Council are pleased to announce that Robert Deveaux has been awarded the 2024 Prix Grand-Pré.
Robert Deveaux from St-Joseph-du-Moine is both a Cape Breton-style fiddler and a folklorist passionate about traditional Acadian songs. He played in Grand-Pré beginning with “Le Théatre des Moineaux” in 1993, with “La Revue Musicale Acadienne” in 1998, at the commemoration ceremonies of the Order of the Deportation of September 5, 2010 and with “Les Zorvenants” at the celebrations of peace and friendship with the Mi'kmaq people in 2017 and again in July 2023 for a celebration of Acadian violin players for Journées Acadiennes de Grand-Pré. From 2005 to 2012 he was a part of the music program at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site performing 18th Century French music in period costume. He has in his discography with the duo Boulerice-Demers from the Montreal region, namely “Art Populaire”, an album with 11 old French songs dating back to the 18th century in a very traditional style, on musical instruments.
About the Award
The Prix Grand-Pré is an annual award that was established in 1987. It recognizes Nova Scotia's creative and interpretive artists working in any medium whose work reflects Acadian cultural values, while demonstrating excellence and originality. The prize will be presented to P'tit Belliveau at the Creative Nova Scotia Awards on November 3, 2024.
Ce prix annuel a été établi en 1987 afin de reconnaître les artistes néo-écossais de tous les domaines dont le travail reflète les valeurs culturelles acadiennes tout en faisant preuve d'excellence et d'originalité. Le prix sera présenté à P'tit Belliveau à la remise des Prix pour la création en Nouvelle-Écosse le vendredi 3 novembre 2024.
