The 2024 Art Bank acquisitions will be on view at Eltuek Arts Centre, with installations in Cafe Marie Cafe and the Corridor Gallery.

For half a century, the Nova Scotia Art Bank has been building a living collection of works by Nova Scotian artists — a collection created to be seen, shared, and woven into daily life. Owned by the Province of Nova Scotia and managed by Arts Nova Scotia, the Art Bank Collection is unlike any other — not hidden away in vaults, but displayed in public spaces across the province, from government offices to creative community hubs like Eltuek.

Since 1975, acquisitions have been made annually, selected by peer assessment from submissions by professional Nova Scotian artists.

As the Art Bank celebrates this milestone, it also acknowledges barriers that African Nova Scotian, Mi’kmaq, and other BIPOC artists have faced.

In 2024, the purchase program focused exclusively on Mi’kmaq and African Nova Scotian artists — a first step toward addressing those gaps and honouring the artistic legacies and vibrant contributions of these communities across Mi’kma’ki and Nova Scotia.
