Yesterday, February 23, the Government of Nova Scotia released Budget 2026-27 - Defending Nova Scotia (https://novascotia.ca/budget).

Over the past five years, government has made significant investments in programs and services to improve healthcare, strengthen communities and support those who need it most.

In the face of continuing global uncertainty and slower revenue growth, they need to manage expenses carefully. Government is undertaking a number of measures including reducing the size of the civil service by 5%, reducing the size of the broader public service by 3% and reducing government operating costs. They have also made the difficult decision to reduce discretionary grants.

Arts Nova Scotia will receive a 30% reduction to our 2026-27 total budget allocation.

The board and staff will be working over the next days and weeks to review the budget details and determine how this reduction will impact all programs. As we are working through this adjustment, we can promise regular updates and transparency around our decision-making. Check our website for regular updates at artsns.ca/news

Arts and culture are essential to our communities, our identity, and our economy. Arts Nova Scotia is committed to supporting a vibrant arts ecosystem.
