In light of the uncertainty of live events in the past three years, we booked a smaller venue than usual for our in-person 2022 Creative Nova Scotia Awards Celebration. We were delighted to discover all the seats will be filled with the award winners for 2021 and 2022, their families and friends, presenters, and performers. Demand for these seats has been higher than expected and as a result, we no longer have tickets for the in-person show to offer to the general public. The 2022 Creative Nova Scotia Awards will once again be produced by live art company HEIST and will take place at Alderney Landing Theatre in Dartmouth, NS on the evening of Thursday, November 10. The annual art party that brings together and honours artists from all over the province promises to be a great night out. This year’s event showcases a curated preshow exhibit featuring numerous Nova Scotia artists from different artistic disciplines starting at 6:45 pm which is then followed by the awards ceremony. The ceremony will be co-hosted by filmmaker and writer Sylvia Hamilton and theatre and film actor James MacLean. The night will also feature a post-show party with DJ Douvet and dancers from the House of Eights Studio.
Presented by Arts Nova Scotia and the Creative Nova Scotia Leadership Council, the Creative Nova Scotia Awards celebration is an annual event that celebrates excellence in artistic achievement, notably in the announcement of the major award, the Portia White Prize, along with the winners of the Creative Community Impact Award, the Prix Grand-Pré, the Established Artist, Emerging Artist, Black Artist and Indigenous Artist Recognition awards. The night will also unveil and honour the winner of The Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia Masterworks Arts award. Collectively, the awards are worth $100,000.
HEIST is no stranger to this event as they have produced and curated the 2019 and 2020 editions, the latter being a fully digital live-streamed version. This year is a hybrid event that will feature an in-house audience as well as allow people to tune in from all over the province to a free livestream.
HEIST’s artistic director Richie Wilcox says, “This is an event that truly creates a space for artists from all disciplines and walks of life to converge and come together for one night. We’re wanting to embrace that unique element of this awards celebration and continue to bring together our many talented communities.” He adds, “Like many shows, this year marks the return of the in-person event post-Covid and so we are definitely ready to celebrate!”

Accessibility: Alderney Landing Theatre is a fully accessible space with gender-neutral washrooms. ASL interpreters will be present during the ceremony at Alderney and the livestream and all pre-recorded videos will have closed captioning.
