Fabien Melanson works provide the public with a window into contemporary Acadian life. His two projects, En Français S.V.P and Premiers mots, allowed him to present his story in the medium of film to the worldwide audience. These projects provide a snapshot in a modern-day Acadian family and document some of the main obstacles faced by this minority culture, such as assimilation, which has affected their French language for centuries. What Fabien has achieved with these two films shows that it is possible to safeguard ones heritage. Fabien and his family’s efforts provide a fine example and encourage his community here in Halifax and across the country.
